Kaye Ellis' Sugar Cookies

Kaye was a member of the church that Maynard Pittendreigh served during the pandemic, College Park Presbyterian Church.  Every year, Kaye would make a large number of cookies for her family and invite a few church members to come to her home to decorate the cookies.  Ginny Pittendreigh was among those helpers.  


COOKIE RECIPE

1 cup butter, softened

2 cups of sugar

2 eggs

1 teaspoons vanilla extract

5 cups all-purpose flour

1 1/2 teaspoon of baking powder

1 teaspoon of baking soda

1/2 teaspoon salt

1/4 cup milk


DIRECTIONS

1. In a large bowl, cream butter and sugar until light and fluffy.  

2. Add eggs and vanilla. 

3. In a separate bowl, combine flour, baking powder, baking soda and salt

4. Add the flour etc mixture alternating with the milk.

5. Cover and refrigerate for 15-30 minutes until easy to handle.

6. Preheat oven to 350 degrees.

7. On a floured surface, Kaye uses powdered sugar, roll out dough to 1/8 inch thickness.  

8. Place 2 inches apart on a greased cookie sheet.  

9. Bake 10 minutes or until golden brown. 

10. Remove from pans and allow to cool. 

This batch will yield a dozen.

 

GLAZE

1 cup confectioner's sugar

3 tablespoons of Karo Syrup

1 tablespoon milk

1 teaspoon vanilla extract (use clear vanilla for this glaze)
