CAKE - Debra's Cold Oven Pound Cake

Debra Tidmore

Bill Pittendreigh recalls visiting his grand daughter, Debra, shortly after she had cooked a pound cake. It was so good he asked for a recipe. Bill says, "I made my reputatiojn as a cooker of pound cakes at the Church of Redeemer in Greenville, SC, by bringing these pound cakes to covered dish suppers.

3 1/2 cups of flour

3 cups of sugar

1 cup of milk

1 teaspoon vanilla flavor

1 teaspoon almond flavor

5 eggs

2 sticks of margerine

1/2 cup of Crisco

Cream sugar, margerine and Crisco together. Then add eggs, flavoring and milk. Mix thoroughly. Then add flour and milk alternatively, a small amount at a time. Pour into a well greased and floured cake pan. Cook at 300 degrees for 2 hours.
