Yields 8 to 10 servings
- 2 pounds fresh okra
- 2 ½ cups water
- 2 cups vegetable oil
- 1 cup all purpose flour
- 1 cup plain cornmeal
- Salt and pepper
- Wash and cut the okra in 1/2 inch disks, discarding the ends.
- Pour the water into a mixing bowl. Place the okra in the water to moisten.
- Remove the okra from the water and toss in the flour mixture.
- Place each piece of okra separately in the heated oil. Cook until golden brown.
- When done, remove and drain on paper towel.
