CAKE ICING - Florence Cake Icing

Florence Comer

When Florence sent this recipe, she told us the following story...

The Harris Bible Class of the ARP church was having a picnic. I bake a Betty Crocker mix white cake but the frosting was made by me. Everyone was asking for the recipe. Ed spoke up and said that anyone that could follow the directions on a cake mix box could make one. Mother was there and she became very up set with Ed. On the way home she said every one could make a mix cake. She was one. Here is the icing recipe. Use any cake mix and ice it with the following.

1/3 cup of Crisco

3 1/2 cups sifted Confectionery sugar

1 T. grated orange rind

1 egg

1/3 Cup orange juice

Blend Crisco, 1 1/2 cups sugar, orange rind and egg until fluffy alternate adding orange juice with remaining sugar blend until creamy.
